Eradication program BayTool

Eradication measures
Intensive rat control must commence immediately when an outbreak is suspected, prior to disinfection, culling and sanitation as rats will abandon their habitat when severely disturbed. As a consequence, there is a risk that they will act as vectors at a distance exceeding several kilometres within a few days. A migrating rat can convey pathogens to farms inside or outside the prohibited area.
Eradication measures
Intensive rat control must begin immediately when an outbreak is suspected. Extreme epidemic situations justify placement of maximum amounts of bait outside of bait stations in barns and buildings. Bait should be replenished daily. Dogs and cats must not be allowed to move freely within the affected area. Additional perimeter ring baiting will reduce the risk of rat emigration. Monitoring and documenting the eradication is important to simplify/enable the purchase of new livestock.
